Soundgarden, one of the pioneers of the Seattle grunge movement, was the first grunge band to sign with a major label, A&M Records, in 1988—six months before Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

Metallica’s self-titled 1991 album, also known as “The Black Album,” has been certified 16x platinum in the United States, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time.

Aerosmith’s 1993 hit “Cryin'” won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video, and its music video starred a then-unknown Alicia Silverstone, who would go on to become a 90s icon after her role in the movie “Clueless.”
